Life
Lessons
The difference between school and
life?
In school, you're taught a lesson
and then given a test. In life, you're given a test that teaches you a lesson.
Opportunity
Alexander
the Great visited the studio of a sculptor in Athens and found it was full of
statues. There he saw a statue with the face covered and its feet having wings,
and enquired, “what is its name?’.
The
sculptor replied ‘Its name is opportunity’.
Alexander
asked, “Why its face is covered?”
The
sculptor said, “Because people rarely see opportunity when it passes before
them.”
“But
why do the feet have wings?’ Asked Alexander.
The
Sculptor replied, “Because once it flies, it won’t come back. “
That
is why the saying “Lost opportunity does not come back.”
You
have to grab the opportunity and make the best use of it.

Building
a Life
An
elderly carpenter was ready to retire, and he told his boss of his plans to
leave and live a more leisure life with his wife.
The
contractor was sorry to see such a good worker go, and he asked the carpenter
to build just one more house as a personal favour. The carpenter said yes, but
in time it was easy to see in his heart was not in his work. He resorted to
shoddy workmanship and used inferior materials. It was an unfortunate way to
end a dedicated career.
When
the carpenter finished his work, the employer came to inspect the house. He
handed the front-door key to the carpenter. “This is your house”, he said, “It
is my gift to you”.
The
carpenter was shocked! What a shame! If he had only known he was building his
own house, he would have done it all so differently.
Moral:
- We build our lives, a day at a time, often putting less than our best into
the building. Then with a shock we realize we have to live in the house we have
built. If we could do it over, we’d do It much differently. But we cannot go
back…
You
are the carpenter of your life. Each day you hammer a nail, place a board, or
erect a wall. Your attitude and choice you make today build your “House “for
tomorrow… Therefore, build wisely.

Hierarchy of Needs
1
Physiological Needs
Physiological
needs are those required to sustain life, such as:
- air
- water
- nourishment
- sleep
According
to the theory, if such needs are not satisfied then one's motivation will arise
from the quest to satisfy them. Higher needs such as social needs and esteem
are not felt until one has met the needs basic to one's bodily functioning.
2, Safety
Once
physiological needs are met, one's attention turns to safety and security in
order to be free from the threat of physical and emotional harm. Such needs
might be fulfilled by:
- Living in a safe area
- Medical insurance
- Job security
- Financial reserves
According
to the theory, if a person feels that he or she is in harm's way, higher needs
will not receive much attention.
3, Social Needs
Once
a person has met the lower level physiological and safety needs, higher level
needs become important, the first of which are social needs. Social needs are
those related to interaction with other people and may include:
- Need for friends
- Need for belonging
- Need to give and receive love
4, Esteem / Prestige needs
Once
a person feels a sense of "belonging", the need to feel important
arises. Esteem needs may be classified as internal or external. Internal esteem
needs are those related to self-esteem such as self respect and achievement.
External esteem needs are those such as social status and recognition. Some
esteem needs are:
- Self-respect
- Achievement
- Attention
- Recognition
- Reputation
The
need for knowledge and aesthetics is the next step before Self Actualization
5, Self-Actualization
It
is the quest of reaching one's full potential as a person. Unlike lower level
needs, this need is never fully satisfied; as one grows psychologically there
are always new opportunities to continue to grow.
Self-actualized
people tend to have needs such as:
- Truth
- Justice
- Wisdom
- Meaning
Self-actualized
persons have frequent occurrences of peak experiences, which are
energized moments of profound happiness and harmony. According to theory, only
a small percentage of the population reaches the level of self-actualization.
Implications for Management
If
the theory holds, there are some important implications for management. There
are opportunities to motivate individuals through management style, job design,
company events, and compensation packages, some examples of which follow:
- Physiological needs: Provide lunch breaks, rest breaks, and wages that are sufficient to purchase the essentials of life.
- Safety Needs: Provide a safe working environment, retirement benefits, and job security.
- Social Needs: Create a sense of community via team-based projects and social events.
- Esteem Needs: Recognize achievements to make individuals feel appreciated and valued. Offer job titles that convey the importance of the position.
- Self-Actualization: Provide individuals a challenge and the opportunity to reach their full career potential.
However, not all people are driven by the same needs
- at any time different people may be motivated by entirely different factors.
It is important to understand the needs being pursued by each individual. To
motivate an individual, the leader must be able to recognize the needs level at
which the individual is operating, and use those needs as levers of motivation.

Importance of Upgrading of Knowledge
One of the most important target
of education and foundation of success is knowledge on different topics in this
world. There is no dispute on the truth that knowledge is power. Because
wherever we go we experience the strength of knowledge. Early man lived almost
like animals, but man has intelligence, so he made use of it to learn from experience
and amass knowledge. This helped him to achieve development in different
fields. Every where knowledge is considered as the foundation of success.
In short knowledge is a power that
puts man in an important position
Different knowledge Gap.
o
Knowledge Gap :- Acquire knowledge
o Belief Gap: - Have 100% belief in yourselves, In Products, The Technology, The systems
in place and The Company.
If you have belief in 30 million GOD’S and do not have
belief in YOURSELVES it is USELESS.
Every great dream begins with a dreamer. Always
remember, you have within you the strength, the patience, and the passion to
reach for the stars to change the world. “Keep your dreams alive. Understand to
achieve anything requires faith and belief in yourself, vision, hard work,
determination, and dedication. Remember all things are possible for those who
believe.”
o Action
Gap :- Take action when it is required
remember the most popular say; “Strike the iron when it is hot”
o Skill
Gap: - Training & Personality
development is the most important sharpen the knowledge and acquire new skills
to meet the present day’s market requirements.
o Change
Gap: - Change is the door that can only
open from inside. Progress is impossible without change. And those who can not
change their minds cannot change anything. To change one person has to take
some pain. If the person is willing to take the pain, that person can make an
impact. Remember “Change is the law of life”
Ø
Change your mind
Ø
Change your attitude
Ø
Change your style
Change is not a threat. It is an
opportunity.
Moral
Story: - Changing your Perspective
One day a farmer’s donkey fell down into a well. The
animal cried piteously for hours as the farmer tried to figure out what to do.
Finally
he decided the animal was old, and the well needed to be covered up anyway; it
just wasn’t worth it to retrieve the donkey. He invited all his neighbors to
come over and help him. They each grabbed a shovel and began to shovel dirt
into the well.
At
first, the donkey realized what was happening and cried horribly. Then, to
everyone’s amazement, he quieted down. A few shovels later, the farmer looked
down the well, and was astonished at what he saw. As every shovel of dirt hit
his back, the donkey did something amazing. It would shake the dust off and
take a step up. As the farmer’s neighbors continued to shovel dirt on top of
the animal, he would shake it off and take a step up.
Pretty
soon, everyone was amazed, as the donkey stepped up over the edge of the well
and trotted off.
Life is going to shovel dirt on you, all kinds of
dirt. The trick to getting out of a trouble is to shake it off and take a step
up. Each of your troubles is a stepping-stone. You can get out of the deepest
troubles just by not stopping, never giving up! Shake it off and take a step
up!
Think
of a situation you are facing now. Why not try to change your perspective from
where you are to where you want to be? Changing your perspective is all within
your power!
“If
you want to change. Change yourselves”
